invite you to two events with acclaimed
artist Nick Cave and his collaborator Bob Faust

Chicago-based artist Nick Cave is an educator and messenger known for working between the visual and performing arts, using a wide range of mediums including sculpture, installation, video, sound, and performance. Cave and his long-time project and personal partner, Bob Faust, have developed a 20,000 square foot space in Old Irving Park to serve as an incubator for collaboration and to inspire young artists.

Nick Cave: Art, Performance, and Empowerment

Tampa International Airport, third floor event space between Terminals E and F

5:30pm: Networking and reception with the artists; Joe Lopano, CEO of Tampa International Airport; and Steve Currall, USF’s new System President.

6:15pm: Artist talk with Nick Cave. Following the talk, Nick Cave and Bob Faust will lead attendees to their work Palimpsest, a tapestry installed in the Rental Car Center.

Workshop: Identity and the Art of Introduction

USF Theatre II on the Tampa campus

10:00am – 4:00pm: Nick Cave and Bob Faust will lead a select group of multi-disciplinary USF students in an all-day workshop on the power of collaboration and the critical role that understanding each other, as people and artists, plays among participants. Interested artists, community members, and students are invited to drop in throughout the day to observe this workshop.

Tampa International Airport - Joe Lopano, CEO

Artist Nick Cave and collaborator Bob Faust were commissioned to produce a hanging sculpture in the new Rental Car Center at the Tampa International Airport. Palimpsest is a 45-foot-wide and 70-foot-long tapestry. This work is one of seven public art installations for Tampa International Airport’s expansion as part of Master Plan Phase 1.

Artist’s Statement: This contemporary palimpsest is a monumentally scaled, hand-made, holder of memories, past, present and future. It is a conceptual web of travels, coded by color and steeped in human connection. It hangs as an energy field that both welcomes one home and wishes one well on their next journey. Each bead, series of colors or bustled field holds the stories of the many makers that worked daily for over 10 months to create Palimpsest. Now complete in its new home, it is ready to receive your stories too.

As the creative center of the University of South Florida, the College of The Arts provides an enriched, creative, and professional environment for tomorrow’s leaders in architecture, community design, visual art, art history, music, theatre, and dance. The Institute for Research in Art, also part of the College of The Arts, includes the Contemporary Art Museum, Graphicstudio, and Public Art and Social Practice.

Ralph Wilcox, USF’s Provost and Executive Vice President, provided funds to support a Distinguished Master Artist series in the College of The Arts. Funding from the Provost’s office supports the all-day multi-disciplinary workshop in the College of The Arts.
