Richard Beckman
Half the Truth, 1990

LOCATION:
University of South Florida, Tampa campus
Between School of Art and Art History (FAH) and Psychology and Communication Sciences & Disorders (PCD)

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Half the Truth was donated to the USF Collection by the Family of Richard Beckman. The siting of the sculpture between the facilities of Psychology and the Arts is appropriate to Beckman’s life and career as an artist and teacher. Beckman’s organic and geometric forms, in human scale, investigate the dynamic balance between mind and body, cerebral and spiritual, and the synthesis of this duality through materials and process. This early work demonstrates Beckman’s mastery of his craft and ability to create forms which engage the viewer cerebrally as well as physically. The presence of the work on campus and in the USF Collection will serve as a tribute to Richard Beckman’s influence and contributions to past USF students and members of the Tampa Bay community for years to come.
